Reflection on Day 2 of training

Wednesday's training was very informative and very fast paced. I enjoyed working with the flip cameras alot and creating the video. I enjoyed it so much that I now want to create videos of my son, using his pictures growing up.

I feel that I have paid very close attention to the training in the last couple of days. It is alot of information being provided in a very short time frame and it requires my 100% attention. I have found my strengths to be using the technology tools once they are uploaded and working properly, especailly when I see the end-game or what I can use them for. I see that I have a weakness in troubleshooting when the tools don't work properly.

I feel that I have been professional in the training in that I have not used my phone or laptop during the training and instead have given the trainers my complete attention. Also, I feel that I am a teamplayer and demonstrated that when working in groups during the training.

J.J. and I created a video on Professional Dress and I enjoyed Windows Movie Maker. However, I am having a problem with the audio on Movie Maker. The audio worked fine before I posted it on my blog, but cuts off after a few seconds of the video now that it is on my blog. Any suggestions?

I really enjoyed Google Earth and the the Google Literature site. I love to read and especially enjoyed literature when I was in high school. WOW! If I would have only had this site when I was reading and studying my favorite Ernest Hemingway novel, "The Sun Also Rises."

Thanks for the great training - I'm looking forward to my final day!

My reflection on Training Today

Today's training was very insightful and fun for me. I have worked with the TeachUp! Program for 3 years now in several different roles, but I have never had the opportunity to sit through training as an "Intern." I enjoyed doing that so that I can use what I have learned and then pass on to the Interns that I will train for the Program next year.

I think the tool that I enjoyed the most was the blog. I have seen a lot of blogs and recommended them to Interns to use and integrate in the schools, but had never actually created one and added to it. I enjoy writing and it allows me to work through my thoughts. I will DEFINITELY ask all of my interns next year to follow MY blog for next school year. I will post all of the information that I need to tell them in one spot instead of calling all of them and post links to all of the surveys, etc. This is an ideal tool for ISMs to use with Interns.

I also appreciated the recommendation of creating a "professional" Facebook account. I have and use a personal Facebook account, but would like to network professionally and have not done that thus far. I set up a professional account today in class and have already started using it. One question about Facebook that I didn't want to take time up - How do you "unfriend" a person once you have accepted their friendship???

Thanks for a great day! Ya'll have done a GREAT job!!

Teacher Visits vs Teacher Observations

Teacher Observations:

Pros:
Can observe teachers in their "normal" activities
Can take inventory of the technology available in the classroom

Cons:
Make choose a day to observe when a teacher is conducting a test or not using technology
There is no interaction between the teacher and Intern and Intern is not able to ask questions

Teacher Visits:
Pros:
Can interact with the teacher and ask questions
Can work one-on-one with the teacher on technology tools

Cons:
Cannot see the teacher in action and cannot see her teaching style
Cannot see teacher's actual use of technology in the classroom

Podcast - Role of Intern and Goals

My Role and Goals

My role as a TeachUp! Intern is to assist Teachers with the integration of technology in their classrooms. I also see my role as helping to bring my school into the 21st century by introducing them to the latest and greatest technology tools, thereby transforming the school and ultimately the lives of the students.

My short term goals for my internship are:

1) To build relationships with all teachers so that they trust me as an expert in my field.
2) To research web 2.0 tools completely so that I can act as an expert in my field and share confidently with the teachers.
3) To also build relationships with the administration and technology staff in order that they trust me to do the best work possible with the teachers.

My long term goals for my internship are:
1) To obtain experience from this great opportunity with the on-the-job training and then apply it in my future career.
2) My ultimate goal is to have every teacher in my assigned school technology savvy by the end of the school year so that they do not need me at all.
